Summer Solstice

Yesterday was officially the Summer Solstice, but the energy and light remain the same for three days, through June 23rd. This is a time of light in the Northern Hemisphere. A time of restoration, rest and expansion.

Consider how you can mark the zenith of the sun: enjoy a garden, plant flowers, spend time outside, create an alter, write an intention, do a gentle yoga practice, be on the water, or whatever helps you mark this time of light and heat.

The summer and winter solstices and the two equinoxes mark our year. They tell us when to rise and when to rest, when to plant and when to harvest and when to be active and when to rest. Before climate controlled indoor environments and virtual living, our ancestors were in tune with the rhythms of the sun and the seasons her movements create. Each solstice and equinox allows us to realign with the cry the sun of natural world.

How can you mark this moment in the year and your life?

We had record breaking heat here today. But I still rode my horse for a short ride and then bathed him and took him for some grass under the trees. Came home and spent some time in the garden. It is 9:03 and still plenty of daylight . I love it !

Our summer solstice was marked with extreme heat this year. I usually enjoy taking the opportunity to sit outside late into the evening on the first day of summer, but not this year. I observed it from AC comfort.
