There is a reason why “I Am Light” sung by India Arie is on at least one of every yoga teacher’s playlists, including one of mine.
I play my “Come onto the Light -Bliss” playlist often in the morning. Sometimes for a personal, free form yoga practice or often while I’m getting ready for the day. I find this playlist to be very calming grounding.
The song has snuck into my subconscious. I find parts of the lyrics playing on a loop in my head when I am trying to calm myself or walking the dog or in rush hour traffic.
I am light, I am light
I am light, I am light
I am light, I am light
I am light, I am light
I am not the things my family did
I am not the voices in my head
I am not the pieces of the brokenness inside
I am light
I am light
I am light, I am light
I am light, I am light
I am light, I am light
I'm not the mistakes that I have made
Or any of the things that caused me pain
I am not the pieces of the dream I left behind
I am light
I am light
I am light
I, I am light
I am light, I am light
Ay-yeah
I am light, I am light
I am not the colour of my eyes
I am not the skin on the outside
I am not my age
I am not my race, my soul inside is all light
All light
All light, yeah
All light
I am light, I am light
I am light, I am light, yeah
I am devinity defined
I am the god on the inside
I am a star
A piece of it all
I am light
“I am light” is a good mantra. I love the concept of being a healing light, rather than a harsh glare, of course. The lyrics that are bouncing around in my head this morning are “don’t worry, be happy.” Not quite so profound, but there you go, my Monday mantra.

Don’t worry, be happy is a great mantra. I alway find it interesting what lyrics or phrases come to mind.

Thank you for sharing this. I’ve never heard it before. I need to listen to it often and maybe it will seep into my subconscious. I used to take it for granted that I could grasp a mantra. No more. I’ve learned the hard way, many cannot do this. My deceased 26-year-old son taught me this. Thank you again for sharing it! I always get so much from your blog posts. Sending love and, yes, LIGHT! 🤍

I love India Arie! I love this song too. This is a great mantra to repeat and although I don’t practice yoga, I will use this mantra when I am struggling with negative thoughts or even when I am meditating.
