I go down to the shore in the morning
Mary Oliver
and depending on the hour the waves
are rolling in or moving out,
and I say, oh, I am miserable,
what shall—
what should I do? And the sea says
in its lovely voice:
Excuse me, I have work to do.
I go down to the shore in the morning
Mary Oliver
and depending on the hour the waves
are rolling in or moving out,
and I say, oh, I am miserable,
what shall—
what should I do? And the sea says
in its lovely voice:
Excuse me, I have work to do.
Mysterious and comforting… Lovely passage. Thank you for sharing

The ocean does a great job of soothing the soul, doesn’t it?

Yes. I am grateful to have had 48 hours alone before the rest of the group arrives. I love them, but I needed down time.

Beautiful colors. Makes me feel relaxed just seeing them.

I love that. The perspective of nature…it’s grounding, I think.

Beautiful! Being beside the water always soothes me. Odd that I live inland right now, when my inclination one day is to satisfy that need to be seaside!

2020 was the first time o over 20 years that I did not see the ocean at least once. I can’t be away that long!

Me, too! I really missed seeing the Gulf of Mexico — that’s kind of a second home for me.

Mary Oliver’s one of my favorite poets, and this is one of my favorites from her work. I like to read it when I’m making excuses of one sort or another.
